Glastonbury Festival 153

Every summer, the UK musical calendar places its focus squarely on 900 acres of muddy farmland in the Somerset village of Pilton. The legendary Glastonbury festival is the largest greenfield festival in the world, and is now attended by around 175,000 people every year. If you're a music lover, a party animal or a festival-goer, add your own images and tell your own chapter of Glastonbury's story as we take a mud-caked and free-spirited musical journey charting the festival's beginnings, evolution and famous performances. With humble beginnings, what would evolve into the Glastonbury known so famously today was first staged at Worthy Farm and known as the Pilton Pop, Blues & Folk Festival. The event was the brainchild of dairy farmer Michael Eavis and took place on Saturday September 19th 1970, with tickets costing £1 and 1500 people in attendance. The 1971 festival would take on a more familiar look with the debut of the "Pyramid Stage", a one-tenth replica of the Great Pyramid of Giza built from scaffolding and metal. The 1980s saw Glastonbury become a yearly fixture in the cultural calendar and since then its meteoric rise as one of the world's premier music festivals, attracting some of the biggest performers on the planet, has only continued. So, get your wellies on, pitch your tent and join us we create the ultimate visual map of the UK's iconic Glastonbury Festival.
